Welcome to the new updated site for the Tsunami Children's Fund.
As many of you already are aware we started this fund over a year ago after returning from Southern Thailand where we witnessed the tsunami of 26th December 2005. This year we went back again to Railay to visit our friends and to see how the donations were being used.
It's over a year ago now and life for us is pretty much back to normal. But many people's lives changed for ever on that day. For the last year we have been working with various people in Thailand to help them rebuild their lives and bring back a sense of normality.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who donated so generously with your time and your money. We were all overwhelmed by the support we received from friends, family and business partners.
We received donations from Germany, UK and Norway. The final amount at the end of last year was over 15,000 Euros.
Here is a breakdown of how the money was spent:
4,700 Euros went to Sara, Luang and Tuva
o day to day living expenses.
o renovating a second hand boat to become their new home
o Tuva's school expenses.
2,700 went to Billee
o help to rebuild his bar and bungalows
8,000 Euros went to local children affected by the Tsunami
o School uniforms
o School food
o Books and materials
During our trip this year we were really pleased to see how much Luang, Sara and Billee have rebuilt their lives. We visited the children in the local schools who have been supported by the donations. We were all very moved by what we saw in the schools, but we could see that what is needed for the future is 'an ongoing commitment'. So, for the future, we have decided to focus our fundraising on the local children.
