		Local Children - An ongoing commitment! We have been working with an American couple: Dick and Beth, who have lived in Thailand for over 20 years. They are based in Railay and have been heavily involved in Tsunami charity work over the last year. One of their projects is a Children's fund - we have decided to collaborate with them as we were so impressed by their work. During our recent trip to Thailand we spent the day with Beth visiting the children we are supporting in two of the schools. Beth was a great tour guide for the day and introduced us to the teachers and children. There was great excitement with our visit. In the first school they had prepared a lunch for us which gave us an opportunity to talk with the teachers, afterwards they showed us the classrooms where the children gave us a great welcome. There was great curiosity, giggles and smiles. We all agreed it put a new perspective on our fundraising. Seeing directly where the money is going and needed. One of the teachers said 'last year there were many tears, at least this year there are more smiles' So we have now made an agreement with Dick and Beth to help 54 children obtain their education. We are committed until they are finished with 12th grades. So, for some that is a just a few years and for many it is much more. We even have a couple that are not yet in school. So, that is about 14 years of promised involvement on our parts. The only thing we request of the kids is for them, between the ages of 13-17, to help someone else. Or to do some kind of community service to help others. We have paid for all 54 children for this past year and will continue to meet with them once a year to interview them and their guardians/parents and school counselors to have a small relationship with them and keep up with their progress. Here is a breakdown of costs for school per year: Education for Child in High School 323 Euros Education for Junior High School 255 Euros Elementary Grades 128 Euros Kindergarten Grades 55 Euros The target is to get god parenthood for each child: We want to support their whole education. The children have all a different age. If somebody wants to make a ongoing commitment, you can decide if you want to support a child from kindergarden to the 12th grade or if you want to support an older one.
